Scary, Scary, Scary

We had trick or treat last night, the kids had that scary mask from some scary movie I never saw. Max's mask had this liquid we had to pour into a pump and when he squeezed the pump the blood like liquid would drip through the mask. It was pretty cool. Jake thought it was gross and that is why he just got the plain maks.

They had a good time and got a lot of candy. Now I will have hyper children for the next month or so.....

Scouts and Soccer

What da ya mean he's coming to cub scouts this year? Jake had his scond Pack meeting this year and he earned his softball belt loop. He is very excited about coming along. I will have both kids up at fall camp with me this year. Jake really likes wearing the uniform and is into all the awards and badges he can earn.

Jake played great this weekend at his soccer game. He scored two goals. At least he claims he scored two goals. Neither of his parents had any visual confirmation however how can you doubt the self proclaimed second best soccer player on the Storm Runners.

Max's team lost 1-0 this week. They played a team in their league who they had lost to prior 5-2. Max played goalie in the second half and held the other team scoreless while he was in goal. His punting has come along way, he consistently got the ball over mid-field. There was quite the controversy at the end of the second half. As time was running out our guys were putting some pretty good pressure on the opposing team. A shot went toward the net but was knocked down by a defender with his hand. After the ball struck the hand the referee blew the game over. Our coach insisted that we should receive a penalty shot as the hand ball was in the box but the referee insisted the game was over. There were angry words and I suspect several reports to be made on either side about the proper call and potential behavior issues. It was all very exciting and I know I am biased but I do feel the ref missed the call. Anyway only two more soccer weekends left.

Soccer Tournement

Max had a soccer tournament last weekend in Palmyra. He had two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. Going into the weekend his team had not won a game all year. They had one tie and three losses. The prior weekend they got beat pretty bad and morale was down.

The tournement was a great experience for the kids. They got to play a lot of soccer and really came together as a team. They won their first game against a team from Tulpy Pennsylvania 3-2. It was their first win. All the parents were nervous for the guys and couldn't wait for the game to end. In the afternoon they played well for most of the game but it seemed they got tired late in the second half. For 90% of the game they held a team from Maryland to a tie but gave up 3 late quick goals and lost 5-2.

In the third game Max's team faced a team from their league. They had lost to this team earlier 4-3. The game was tied with about 10 minutes left when a shot bounced off a defender and landed right in front of Max. Max shot in the game winning goal! It was his first goal of the year. In the very last game of the weekend they played another team from Maryland. This team had beaten the two teams we beat 10-0 and 8-0. They also beat the team we lost to 4-2. They played their best goal tender during the game who stopped shot after shot from the Maryland players. In the first half Max and teamate found themselves together running side by side toward the goal on a break-a-way. They were elbow to elbow as they approached the goalie. Max ended up taking the shot and scored again! They were winning at half-time 2-1. They played hard in the second half and gave up one more goal. They ended up with a tie against a great team. Everyone was very happy with the outcome.

Jake played a game this weekend and he played really well. He has declared himself the second best player on his team. He is starting to get into soccer more and more. We went to the park this afternoon and practiced. He is a good player when he has energy and focus but he tires easily. Need to get that boy out to run some wind sprints! Jake's team tied this weekend 3-3. Jake just missed two goals.

Tooth Fairy

Jake lost his first tooth! Which means cash in his pocket for more Pokemon cards which will inevitably be stuffed in couch cushions, toyboxes and eventually end up in my sock drawer. Of course upon loosing his tooth his older brother had to inform him that there was no tooth fairy. He was pretty sure Mom and Dad put the money under the pillow. When I was a kid the going rate for a tooth was about .25 or .50 cents. Now we hear reports from our children of teeth going for $10. Not sure if all this is true or if the little whipper snappers are trying to drive up the market price of teath.
