Danube Swabians

Imagine growing up with a unique name and people asking you what nationality you are and not knowing? Well on my Mom's side it was clear McCarty, I was half Irish, but what about my Dad? He claimed we were Danube Swabians? What? I don't think I believed him for quite some time. Well he is currently in Hungary tracking down our Danube Swabian roots.

The name Unti is Italian, however sometime in the 1800's some Unti's traveled on the Danube to the Swabian region of Germany and settled. Above is the oldest family photo I have from the Unti side of my family. It is of Frank and Kunicunda Unti. Frank's initials have been a running family joke for some time.

I hope to update the blog with pictures of the Motherland when Mom and Pop Unti return from the trip.
