Vacation at the Outer Banks

Last week we went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina on vacation. We rented a house and stayed with my parents, my sister, my other sister and her husband and their three children. It was a crazy week with five kids under the age of nine running around in the house. The kids had a great time.

Here is the crew on the beach early in the week. The waves were big at the beginning of the week. The kids liked to run into them and get knocked down. They did it over and over and over again. They always came home very tired.

Here is Jake's head sticking out of a wave that just came crashing down on him. He would get right back up and run back at them.

Jake liked to investigate the beach for sea shells with his cousins. He collected many shells. And hey we got to bring them ALL home!

We went and saw lighthouses and went on a nature hike one day. I don't think it was the kids favorite day.

We rented a boat for an afternoon and went crabbing out on the sound. All you need to crab is some string and some chicken. We caught lots of crabs while we were on vacation. Some of the kids even tried eating them with us.

Here is Max holding a line waiting for a crab to tug on the chicken. You have to pull them up pretty slow otherwise they will let go.

Here is Jake with the net we would use to scoop up the crabs once we pulled them to the surface. Jake likes to eat potato chips, especially after he has been handling raw chicken! Yummy!

Max, Ryan and Vangie all proud of the latest catch. Vangie loves to eat crab and was always excited to go, later in the week they caught a bunch off a dock near where we were staying.

We also went swimming in the pool a lot. The kids liked jumping in the pool. I tried to take pictures while they were jumping.

Max always would grab his nose when he jumps so water does not shoot up his snoot. Later this day Jake jumped into the pool and smashed his lip on his cousin's head. We had to take him to the emergency room. He was ok - no stiches and was happy because he got to eat a lot of freezer pops.

Here is some video of the kids jumping in the Pool:
