Soccer

I went away to Portland for training and was able to find my way up to Seattle to visit with some friends. Special thanks to all who were so kind to me while I visited. It was good to see you all. Here is a photo of my from my trip:

While I was away I unfortunately missed Jake's first Soccer Tournament. Jake and most of his team are playing up a year. So they are all young for this age group. They faced a very high level of competition and were roughed up quite a bit. Vangie was able to report Jake had a fantastic moment in the game where he had a breakaway. The kids seemed to me to be in good spirits this week at practice and I am looking forward to getting some more pictures when league play begins in September.

Vangie also sent me the following picture while I was at work last week. Seems she thinks she's found a better way to get the kids around. I was relieved not to find the car in the driveway when I got home from work.

Max had a soccer tournamant this weekend. He played in 3 mini games which were 25 minutes and 3 other 50 minute games. In the first 3 mini-games they won one, tied one and lost one. In the game they won Max played goalie and shut the other team out. They lost the remaining three games with the last game going into sudden death overtime. It was a heart breaker. Max only gave up three goals this weekend. He had several halfs of soccer where he was able to shut the opposing team out. Max gets pretty upset when he lets one by. In the second half of Saturday's game he gave up two goals in one half. The first was an amazing shot and Max dove through the air sideways attempting to knock the ball away but it was just out of his grasp. The second goal was a bad bounce that was redirected off a teammate. Max also stopped a penalty shot which was very exciting. He has taken to wearing his goalie jersey backwards as he claims it is good luck.
