Camping and More Soccer

We went on our annual camping trip with some friends and my sisters family this past weekend to Douthat State Park. You may recall last year's blog where a dead body was missing in the lake. It was found two days after we had left. This year the lake was free from dead or missing persons as far as we knew.

We swam in the lake and jumped off the diving board. Jake is fearless! Here is a picture of him diving off head first. He did canon balls, front flips and even tried a back flip. The back flip however, did not work out so well for him. He ended up jumping off and landing flat on his back in the water. It must have hurt, but Jake was a trooper and swam back to the platform and continued to dive.
My Sister and her husband have a boat that they bring every year and the kids love to go tubing. Last year I waterskied but it messed up my neck pretty good. This year one of the adults tried wakeboarding and threw out his back. Seems were all starting to get old.
Jake enjoyed tubing on the lake. Max and one of the other boys were bounced from the raft when the tube crossed another boat's wake. They bounced around pretty good. The kids had a great time.
The kids did crafts. They made colored paint from rocks and pinch pots. Jake's pot got sat on and I had to fix it without him knowing. I think it turned out pretty well and he has not been the wiser.

The parents and the kids also made tie dye t-shirts while we were camping. Here is a picture of the crew sporting their creative talents.

This weekend was the first week of league play in soccer for the boys. We had not yet had them both in uniform at the same time. So we attempted to snap a picture. This is as good as it got. Maybe we'll try again next week.

Hurricane Hanna rolled through central PA this weekend and the boys played right through the storm. The games were at the same time but at different fields. I went to Jake's away game and Vangie attended Max's game. Above is a picture of Jake trying to get open in the storm. Jake's team had been getting blown out pretty bad in the prior tournaments so this week's 4-0 loss seemed like an improvement. The kids played hard and did not let the rain bother them. I was impressed. Jake showed a lot hussel.

While I was at Jake's game I was getting updates from Vangie on Max's game. At the end of the first half they were up 1-0. Max played goalie in the rain. I got a call back when it ended and the final score was 1-1. Max played goalie for the entire game. They scored on him on a corner kick where the opposing team headed the ball into the goal over Max's head. Max called me later. He was excited about the game & I'm told he made some big time saves. The team they played had beaten them pretty bad the prior year. I believe it might have been a 9-0 drubbing, so this weeks 1-1 tie was a moral victory for the team.

I hope to update next week with more photos and stories from the Pitch.
