UNTI FAMILY

We have been dog sitting my sister's dog Java. We enjoy having Java at the house, the kids love spending time with the dog. Java enjoys the fact that our children very rarely get food into their mouths on the first try and things often land on the floor.

The other weekend we had fall camp with the boy scouts. Vangie loves boy scout camp because it means a free weekend away for her. This year she went to New York City with my sister where they saw friends and family and slept in a high class hotel and ate at fancy restaurants. I slept in a cabin in a room with 25 kids who can laugh at their burps and farts until 4 in the morning. We slept in sleeping bags on cots and ate lots of hotdogs over the camp fire. The good news was they upgraded the cabin this year and we now have indoor plumbing! Woooooooooooooooooo! I unfortunately forgot to bring my camera to camp so I have no photos.

At camp the kids go to various stations the boys scouts have prepared where they learn about fire making, wilderness survival, cooking over an open fire, first aid and of course there is always a craft. This year at the wilderness survival station the boy scouts had a bag of common items you might find around your home. They were quizing the scouts on which items would be helpful to have if you were lost in the woods. At one point they pulled out vaseline and cotton balls. When they pulled these items out I leaned over to the other parents and whispered "If you ever wander out into the wilderness with only vaseline and cotton balls you have bigger problems then just being lost." Later we learned that the vaseline is flamable and will help ignite the cotton balls.

It was good to be home after the weekend in the cabin. I got a bad cold and a nasty rash, Vangie got new boots, and the kids had a great time running around the woods with their friends.
